The Yard of the Month is brought to you by “Lil” Bit Western Lawn Care and Jones Hardware & Lumber.
The May 2019 winners of the Yard of the Month are Billy and Aimee Wilson. As you drive through the picturesque neighborhood of Deer Run, there is one yard that stands above the rest, the home of Billy and Aimee Wilson, and their two children, Alex and Abbee. With perfectly striped fescue fit for any major league field and beautiful perennial flowers, trees, and shrubs adorning the front entrance, the Wilson’s front yard is a sight to behold. Billy and Aimee have lived in their home for 13 years. Billy is an Oklahoma City firefighter at Station 27, and Aimee teaches 4th grade at Westfall Elementary in Choctaw.
Billy also owns a professional lawn care business and loves spending time in his yard. He started his own mowing business at age 16, recruiting the help of friend, neighbor, and now fellow yard-man, Jason Loyd. This early love of lawn care has become an evident calling, as Billy carefully tends to his own lawn.

Wife, Aimee, credits her husband for all of the hard work. Billy is a humble and quiet man, never boasting in his accomplishments, but his yard speaks for itself. Billy says he spends about 3 hours a week working in his yard, and son, Alex, says that dad never allows him to mow. This labor of love creates a beautiful oasis for Billy and his family to enjoy year round. Many of the trees and shrubs that they have planted are evergreens, and hold their beauty and color throughout the winter months as well.

Billy says his pool was the best investment they made in their yard, and daughter Abbee agrees, stating it is her favorite part of their home. Summers are filled with friends and family gathered around the pool, enjoying the warm sun and beautiful patio in the back yard. Billy built this pool himself, over 10 years ago, digging the foundation, and laying the rock to create a beautiful cascading waterfall into the pool.
The fast-growing and super hardy Nellie Stevens Holly planted behind the fire pit create a wonderful privacy screen around the patio and pool. These plants can grow up to 3 feet a year, and require little work to manage. They grow up to 15-25 feet at full maturity, which is no wonder why the Wilson’s love this beautiful tree.
Other plants the Wilson family loves are the purple Salvia planted around the pool, their potted Yucca which is expecting its first bloom this season, and the wonderful hydrangeas planted in the front beds. The potted plants are the one thing that Aimee does take credit for, faithfully planting and watering them each season.
Congratulations again to the Wilson family for receiving the May 2019 Yard of the Month. Along with the bragging rights for this new accolade, the Wilsons received a $20 gift certificate from Jones Hardware & Lumber.
