The Jones Longhorns made the trek up to Payne County for a three-team scrimmage with the Cushing Tigers and the Chisholm Longhorns on the Cushing home field.
The scrimmage gave the teams the opportunity to run about a dozen controlled plays both on offense and defense. The Jones Varsity squad then got the chance to play a live quarter with both Chisholm and Cushing.
As head coach Dave Martin strives to improve each week, the scrimmage gave the Longhorns a great stepping stone towards that goal. “We got some quality things out of the scrimmage” Coach Martin said, “you will always want to find those things that you haven’t gotten to this early in the year. Then it becomes some of the focal points.”
When asked about the team performance, Coach Martin emphasized the explosive plays on offense and the great effort on defense.
“This is great prep for us, getting ready for next week.”
The football season will officially start on Friday August 30, 2019 as the Jones Longhorns take on the OCS Saints at Tim Wallace Memorial Stadium at 7:00 pm.
