The Jones Longhorns opened the 2019 season with a dominating 56-8 victory over the Oklahoma Christian School Saints. After a rocky start that saw each team turn the ball over, the Longhorns scored early and often and never looked back. “We came in and put them in a tough spot in the first quarter” said Longhorn Head Coach Dave Martin.

Sophomore Quarterback Carson May finished the night 15 of 19 for 282 yards and 4 Touchdowns. On the ground, Junior Running Back Korbin Cox racked up 96 yards and 3 TDs. However the big story of the night is the Longhorn defense that held the Saints to only 8 points and 145 total yards. Coach Martin complemented the effort of the defense, especially when OCS was given the ball after a turnover, “we had some great responses by the defense…the effort we played with, we can overcome some mistakes.”

While the team received positive marks across the board, Coach Martin sees plenty of room for improvement. “What we are trying to do right now is extend some of those efforts.” However, Martin feels that this 2019 Longhorn team is up to the task. “This team, they work hard and they play hard. This team is not going to get complacent, they are the fabric of Jones, OK and they are going to work.”

Coach Martin and the Longhorns will get a big opportunity to welcome in one of the top ranked teams in Class 3A as Lincoln Christian visits Jones next week.
