The Jones Longhorns suffered their first loss of the season Friday night against the Bulldogs of Lincoln Christian. The Bulldogs showed exactly why they are one of the top teams in class 3A. After the teams swapped touchdowns early in the 1st Quarter, Lincoln Christian reeled off 42 straight points en route to a 49-14 victory. The Bulldog duo of Quarterback Chase Ricke and Wide Receiver Sam Brueggemann connected four times on the evening.
The Longhorns got on the board early with an 8 yard run from Running Back Korbin Cox. But the Longhorns failed to score again until the 4th Quarter when Quarterback Carson May connected with wideout Tye Tucker for a 39 yard score.
Longhorn Head Coach Dave Martin has emphasized the need for the team to improve each week, and this week was no exception. As the team huddled on the field after the game, Coach Martin encouraged his players to acknowledge the mistakes that were made, and to learn from them.
While the Jones Longhorns are not accustomed to losing much in the last few years, the second game of the 2018 season was a 39-14 loss to the Bulldogs of Lincoln Christian. Those Longhorns won the next 10 games on the way to a playoff birth. The team will get a chance to bounce back next week on the road against Pauls Valley.
