The Town of Jones is currently under contract negotiations with AT&T for a new cell phone tower. The initial plans were presented to the Board of Trustees in May of 2019. The town has approved the plans, but final signatures for the contract are still pending from AT&T. Should negotiations still hold strong, the tower construction could begin as early as January 2020, with a final completion date in the fall of the same year.
The proposed tower will increase speeds and be compatible for 5G service. The location for this proposed tower is behind the library, where the road will be extended. This is city-owned property, and the Town of Jones will receive monthly rental payments from the company for the use of this land.
