Longhorns head to Pauls Valley to take on the Panthers

The Jones Longhorns (1-1) will take I-35 South to Garvin County on Friday September 13, 2019 to take on the Pauls Valley Panthers (1-1). The Longhorns are coming in to the game after a letdown last week against 3A power Lincoln Christian. “We just want to see some improvement from last week” said Longhorn Head Coach Dave Martin. “Going against an opponent like Lincoln Christian gives a a gauge of where we need to be, and that’s what we always want. We want to work on the finer points, look at film, adjust expectations and achieve consistency.”

The Panthers are coming in to the showdown fresh off a 20-12 victory over Oklahoma Christian School, the Longhorns week one opponent. The last time the Panthers and Longhorns played, Jones came away with a 28-9 victory at Tim Wallace Memorial Stadium in Week 3 of 2018.

With a number the starters going on the road for the first time, Coach Martin emphasizes the small things leading up to a road game. “We need to make sure we’ve covered our X’s and O’s. Make sure they are prepared for everything. Adapt to everything and have good mental toughness.”

When asked about the process of taking the team on the road Coach Martin laughed as he said “it is like moving a small village.”

The Panthers and Longhorns take the field at 7:00 on Friday night.
