Longhorns Victorious on Homecoming, 41-14

The Jones Longhorns moved to 2-0 in District play with a convincing 41-14 victory over the Meeker Bulldogs. The Longhorns used a strong rushing attack alongside a solid defensive effort to take control of the game. Coach Dave Martin emphasized the necessity of ball control coming in to the game against a Bulldog squad that scored over 60 points the last time on the field. The Longhorns accomplished that task behind the stellar night from Junior Running Back Korbin Cox, that finished the night with 31 carries for 201 yards and 5 Touchdowns. The other score for the Longhorns on the evening was a 66 yard Touchdown pass from QB Carson May to Elijah Reed. Reed finished the evening with 5 catches and 112 yards.

While the offense may get much of the attention, the Longhorn defense came though in a big way, holding the high-powered Bulldog squad to only 14 points, and scoreless in the second half. This impressive feat is bolstered by the fact that many of players on defense were playing new positions due to injuries. Coach Martin discussed the resilience of this Longhorn squad after the game, “It really shows the character of this team…I’m extremely proud of them.”

With a Homecoming victory behind them, the Longhorns can now look forward to road trip to Kellyville next week. All of the Longhorn goals are still within reach. “We’re in a really good position” Coach Martin said, “being 2-0 in district play.”
