The Jones Longhorns won their ninth straight game and advanced to the second round of the 2A playoffs with a 49-21 victory over the Perry Maroons. The Longhorns will host the Adair Warriors next Friday at Tim Wallace Memorial Stadium.
It looked like the Longhorns were going to run away with the game early, rolling out to a 28-0 lead. Jones scored first with a 3 yard TD run by Quarterback Carson May. Elijah Reed showed off his speed on a 65 yard run down the sidelines. A pair of Korbin Cox rushing Touchdowns capped off the scoring for the Longhorns in the first half.

The Maroons then made things interesting, scoring twice late the second quarter to make the score 28-13 heading into the locker room. Another quick score by Perry made the score 28-21 early in the 3rd quarter. But a pair of rushing Touchdowns by May and another from Reed put the Longhorns up for good.
Coach Dave Martin was extremely complementary of the Perry downfield passing game, but he also praised his players ability to adjust. “The kids did a great job preparing, then they came out here and won a playoff game…it all starts with preparation.”
While the victory on Friday night was sweet, Coach Martin and the Longhorns know that a quality opponent is waiting in the wings. “It all starts over in the morning, get everyone back together, we’ll start our Saturday morning routine and build this thing each week.”

Up next will be the 10-1 Adair Warriors, who won their playoff game 58-6 over Dewey. The Warriors will ride into Tim Wallace Memorial Stadium on a seven game winning streak.
