Longhorns Top Redskins 51-39, Make State For the First Time in Program History

The significance of the moment is not lost on Head Coach Jenni Holbrook. Minutes after the #2 Longhorns took care of the #14 Kingston Redskins 51-39, the victorious coach took some time to reflect on the evening. “No Jones Girls Basketball team has ever been to the State Tournament. No Jones Girls Basketball Team has ever won an area championship, so these are firsts for our program.”

These are firsts for our program.

The #2 team in the State in class 3A will walk into the State Tournament next week after a strong performance over the #14 Kingston Redskins. The Area III champions were anchored by the signature stifling defense that has frustrated opponents all year. The Longhorns were led by the dominant duo of Caley Young and Tizrah Moore, who finished the evening with 13 points each and the sharp shooting of Alex Farmer, who drilled four 3-pointers in the first half en route to a 12 point performance. “Nothing can hold us back” Farmer exclaimed after the win.

Nothing can hold us back.

The Horns will get a chance to rest over the weekend while they watch the scores of all the remaining Area games. The Longhorns will be the #2 seed entering the final weekend of the season. The Longhorns should know their first opponent by Monday afternoon.

Though Coach Holbrook and the team will get some rest this weekend. They know the road only gets tougher from here. “This has been our goal, but we are not finished.”

This has been our goal, but we are not finished.
