A Tale of Two Halves: Bulldogs Top Longhorns 35-21

The Jones Longhorns (2-1) fell to the Bulldogs of Lincoln Christian (2-0) 35-21 at Dennis Byrd Memorial Stadium in Tulsa on Friday night.

Coming into the game Friday, Jones was 63-6 dating back to the 2015 season. Three of those losses have come to the Bulldogs of Class 3A. Lincoln Christian showed why they are the defending champions in Class 3A and one of the heavy favorites to make it to the title game again this year.

The Bulldogs got on the board first with a 13-yard QB run by Max Brown. The Longhorns answered with a long drive capped off by an 8 yard touchdown catch by Senior Trey Dorrell. The Longhorns scored again in the first quarter with an 11 yard run by Junior Quarterback Carson May.

There would be no more points scored until the 1:47 mark in the second quarter when May rushed for 37 yards through the middle of the Bulldog defense on 4th and 1. Lincoln Christian would hold Jones scoreless for the rest of the game.

After both teams got the ball in the third quarter, Lincoln Christian blew the game open scoring 20 points in a four minute span to take a 27-21 lead heading into the fourth. This stretched proved to be the difference in the game. A 63 yard run by Brown put the Bulldogs up 35-21 for the final points of the evening.

Brown finished the game 3-6 for 91 yards and a touchdown through the air, but most of his damage was done on the ground with 141 yards on 19 rushes and three scores. For the Longhorns, Carson May was 30-51 for 283 yards and 1 TD in the air and 66 yards on the ground with two TDs. Senior Receiver Elijah Reed had 8 catches for 107 yards. Ty Tucker added another 7 catches for 71 yards.

District play begins next week for the Longhorns as Jones will host Star Spencer (2-1) on Friday at Tim Wallace Memorial Stadium. The Bobcats topped Capitol Hill 46-0 on Friday night.
