Junior Quarterback Carson May threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Jones Longhorns (3-1) opened up district play with a 46-6 victory over the Star Spencer Bobcats (2-2).

Both teams started off slowly, the only points scored in the first quarter were from a 1 yard Touchdown run by May with 19 seconds left in the opening frame. “Any time you start slowly, you are just looking for a spark,” said Jones Head Coach Dave Martin.

That spark came on special teams.
Senior Wideout Elijah Reed returned a punt for a touchdown with 8:07 left in the half. That play started a sequence where Jones scored 19 points in under four minutes. Senior Running Back Korbin Cox scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns, and May found Junior Widout Emmet Murphy for a 29 yard touchdown. All of a sudden the Longhorns were up 26-0 at Halftime.

The Defense consistently held the athletic Bobcat defense in check all night. Star Spencer finished with only 83 passing yards and 58 rushing yards while turning the ball over three times. “It was a great effort by the defense,” Coach Martin said after the win.

The Longhorns continued to have success in the third quarter as Cox had another rushing touchdown, and May was able to connect with Senior Wide Receivers Trey Dorrell and Elijah Reed for touchdowns.

This put the Longhorns up 46-0. The starters rested the entire fourth quarter. The Bobcats were finally able to find the end-zone with 2:34 left in the contest, but the game was well out of reach by that point.

Coach Martin emphasized the need to make incremental improvements. “We want to make sure we improve just a little each week. That is what I tell our guys, if we can go out there and improve each week, we can reach our goals.”
The Longhorns will take the field again next Friday on the road against the Chandler Lions at 7:00 pm.
