Longhorns Travel to Chandler for District Matchup

The Jones Longhorns (3-1) will travel up I-44 to Lincoln County for a District Battle with the Chandler Lions (3-1). Both squads are coming off victories last week as the Longhorns topped Star Spencer 46-6 and the Lions blanked Crossings Christian 36-0. The last time these teams faced off the Longhorns bested the Lions 42-29.

The Lions have a strong rushing attack. Sophomore running back Casmen Hill is averaging 7.8 yards per carry so far in the 2020 season. With rushing Touchdowns of 83 and 79 yards this season he is a threat to score any time he touches the ball. Longhorn defensive coordinator David Quinn spoke on facing such a talented opponent, “any time you go against a player like that you are talking about containment.” Quinn’s Longhorn defense has held opponents to an average of 16 points per game this season. It will take another great effort from Jones to limit Hill’s impact on the game.

Leading the Longhorns offensively is Junior Quarterback Carson May. May has 1,029 passing yards on the year with 9 Touchdowns. Five different Longhorn receivers (Cadyn Karl, Trey Dorrell, Elijah Reed, Tye Tucker and Emmett Murphy) have caught double-digit receptions through four games.

Kickoff will be at 7:00. The Jones Journal will have a live-stream of the game on our YouTube page.
