Senior Elijah Reed scored four touchdowns on the night as the Jones Longhorns (9-2) defeated the Luther Lions (6-5) 50-20 on Friday Night to advance to the third round of the Class 2A Playoffs. The Longhorns will travel to face the Washington Warriors on Friday November 27 at 7:00.

“At this point is the season, the goal is to survive and advance” said Head Coach Dave Martin after the game. The Longhorns accomplished that goal with a stingy defense and explosive offense to distance themselves from their Hogback Rivals.
The Horns received the opening kickoff and Elijah Reed scored on the second play of the game with 65 yard rush. After a Luther three-and-out, Jones would go on a ten play, 59 yard drive that would take over five minutes off of the clock and put the Longhorns up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Luther would score on the second play of the 2nd Quarter on a trick play when Luther Wideout Drew Sheer passed the ball to fellow Wideout Zac Parsons for a 27 yard score. This would set the tone for a high scoring second quarter that saw the teams put up a total of 38 points. Reed would find the endzone twice in the second quarter, once on a 24 yard pass from Junior Quarterback Carson May and once on a 3 yard touchdown run. Luther would get on the board again with 40 yard reception by Drew Sheer.

With the score 28-14 late in the first half, Jones got the ball on the their own 46 yard line with 49 seconds on the clock. Carson May Orchestrated a masterful 54 yard drive that saw May go 5 for 5 to 5 different receivers (Trey Dorrell, Tye Tucker, Emmet Murphy, Elijah Reed and Cadyn Karl) capped off by a 25 toss to Cadyn Karl. This put the Horns up 36-14 at halftime.
Early in the third quarter, after a promising drive by the Lions stalled inside the Jones 5-yard line, Elijah Reed answered with a spectacular 93 yard touchdown run. The Horns would score again on a 7 yard pass from May to Dorrell. The only other scoring in the game was a late 40 yard Luther run with 25 seconds left in the game.

The star of the evening was hands down Elijah Reed. He finished with 211 rushing yards and 3 TDs on 17 carries to go along with 40 yard and a touchdown catch through the air. Carson May finished the evening 15-23 for 225 yards and three scores. The Jones defense came up big all night, holding Luther to only 257 yards on 48 plays.

While the Longhorns can savor the victory over their Rival to the north, the celebration will be short lived as a trip to the Washington Warriors awaits next week.
