Representative Bice Tours Jones

Thursday, April 8th, the Choctaw Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Congresswoman Stephanie Bice in her first official visit to Eastern Oklahoma County. Accompanied by two staff members, Congresswoman Bice was taken on a tour of Jones. Starting with breakfast at Shuff’s Main Street Grill, she conducted a business roundtable with Chamber leaders, local business owners, school officials, and City leaders. After breakfast, Representative Bice and her staff toured Blue and Gold Sausage, where they sampled some of the world renowned products made right here in Jones, OK. She concluded her visit at the Jones Public School Administration Building with discussions on education.

“We are thankful to Congresswoman Bice for joining us in Jones. She indicated to us that it was important to her to hear from business owners, as well as community leaders. We had some productive discussions, and I’m thankful for her enthusiasm about wanting to create relationships in Jones.”

Carol Goodwin, Choctaw Area Chamber of Commerce

While a wide range of topics were discussed with the congresswoman, she was well prepared for each conversation. Municipal discussions with Representative Bice included bridge issues around town and work with the Corp. of Engineers. Bice indicated that she and other members of Congress are working to improve the process for issues like this. Infrastructure needs were also addressed in terms of water, roads, and other needs in Jones. Small business leaders shared concerns regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic and the impact on their operations. Business leaders detailed issues with workforce, cost and availability of goods, and the impact of federal stimulus programs.  Dr. Johnson was able to thank Congresswoman Bice in person for the work she and her colleagues have done to support education throughout the pandemic. A request was made for her to support any legislation that assists rural schools with construction and infrastructure costs.

Money spent on education is always a good investment.

Dr. Carl Johnson, Jones Superintendent
