Longhorns and Bobcats to Clash on Thursday Night

The Longhorns will be on the road again this week

Well, not too far down the road. Jones (1-2) will travel to Star-Spencer (2-1) to take on the Bobcats 7:00 on Thursday September 23, 2021. Only 8.1 miles separate the two schools, who are meeting for the sixth time since the 2014 season.

Jones hopes to build off the momentum from the September 10 victory against the Luther Lions 50-12. The Bobcats will try to stretch their winning streak to three games after topping Western Heights and Capitol Hill their last two outings.

Recent History

2014 35-7 Jones

2015 44-2 Jones

2016 52-20 Jones

2017 54-7 Jones

2020 46-6 Jones

Dating back to the 2014 season, the Longhorns are 5-0 against the Bobcats with average margin of victory of 34 points.

Impressive Stats

Through the first three weeks of the season, a number of Longhorns are putting up pretty impressive numbers

Carson May 54/84 (64.3%), 815 yrds, 8 TD

Cayden Karl 19 rec, 398 yds, 2 TD

Emmitt Murphy 10 rec, 198 yds, 4 TD

District Play

The Longhorns finished outside of first place in the district standings last year for the first time since 2014. The road to another shot at a district title starts with Star-Spencer.

Continuous Improvement

Jones Head Coach Dave Martin has emphasized that he wants his team to improve each and every week. Looking at the stats over the last three weeks it is clear that the Longhorns have steadily improved each outing. Look for the Longhorns to try to establish the run game. The Defense will try to limit big plays and control the Bobcat Offense.

  1. My name is Tommy Miller, and this game has special meaning for me as I played on the very first teams at both schools. As far as I can find out and remember, I’m the only person that can claim this. I went to Jones from September 1956 through May 1958 and to StarSpencer from September 1958 through May 1960. I was able to celebrate with both teams on their 50th anniversaries.
I have many fond memories of both schools. Since I met my wife, Peggy Mobley, at Jones, and made life long friends of her class of 1960 members, I will be rooting for the Longhorns!
