Longhorns Top Bulldogs 55-30, Travel to Luther for First Round of Playoffs

Carson May accounted for seven Touchdowns as the Jones Longhorns finished topped the Meeker Bulldogs 55-30 in the regular season finale. While the Longhorns rolled, so did Crossings and Chandler, making a three-way tie in the district standings. When the marginal points were considered, Jones finished 3rd place in the District, forcing the Longhorns to hit the road for the first round of the OSSAA Class 2A Playoffs.

Carson May was spectacular in his last regular season game as a Longhorn, going 15-24 for 322 yards and 6 TDs and another rushing TD. May’s most productive receiver on the night was fellow Senior Emmett Murphy, who had 5 receptions for 172 yards and 4 TDs. There is a good chance that Murphy has been the most efficient player in the State of Oklahoma over the last two weeks, scoring 8 Touchdowns on 11 receptions. The play of the game was probably an 89-yard May to Murphy connections late in the 1st half. May’s pass was nearly intercepted by a Meeker Defended, but the ball bounced out of his hands and Murphy caught the ball in stride and went into the end zone untouched. May also connected with Nate Veirs and Clayton Creasey on Touchdown Receptions. Chace Pitts was also able to get a rushing TD.

The game seemed like it was going to be tight after Meekr scored early in the 2nd Quarter to tie the game at 7-7. Jones would then score the next 41 points, including 28 in the 2nd Quarter.

Jones will travel to Luther this week to take on the Luther Lions. The Lions and Longhorns clashed earlier this year on September 10, a game the Longhorns won 50-12.
