For the third year in a row, the Jones Longhorns Girls Basketball Team is the Oklahoma Class 3A State Champion. The Longhorns defeated the #1 Washington Warriors 39-33. The Longhorns are the first Jones team to win three consecutive championships in school history. Jones becomes the 10th program in Oklahoma Girls Basketball to achieve three championships in a row. The most recent team to reach this feat was Seiling high school, who lifted four gold balls between 2016 and 2019.
In the two previous trips to the title game, the 4th Quarter was more of a formality, with the Longhorns carrying hefty leads sprinting towards the final frame. That was not the case this year, as the game was close within the final minute of the game.
There are plenty of stories to tell about the uniqueness of this time for sports in Jones. How the School is a perfect 9-0 in State Tournament games. How Jones took down the #1 seed in all three title games. But one thing is certain, if you have followed along the last four years, this is a talented, well coached and high-character team that represent the Jones Community well.
We’ll post another photo gallery later, but until then we will share some of our favorite pictures from the evening.
